Description:
The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program aims to attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally, to develop their leadership potential and position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow. The program is unique in its emphasis on the synergy between the applicant and the host institution, ensuring alignment with the institution’s strategic priorities.

Eligibility:

  • Citizenship: Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, and foreign citizens are eligible to apply.
  • Host Institution:
    • Non-Canadian citizens or permanent residents must hold their fellowship at a Canadian institution.
    • Canadian citizens or permanent residents who obtained their PhD from a foreign university must also hold their fellowship at a Canadian institution.
    • Canadian citizens or permanent residents who obtained their PhD from a Canadian university may hold their fellowship at either a Canadian institution or an institution outside of Canada.
  • Degree Completion: Applicants must have fulfilled all requirements for their PhD, PhD-equivalent, or health professional degree between September 15, 2021, and September 30, 2025, and before the start date of the award.

  1. Confirm Eligibility: Ensure both applicant and proposed host institution meet all eligibility criteria.
  2. Identify a Host Institution and Supervisor: Contact and secure a commitment from a host institution and supervisor willing to support the application.
  3. Register for Accounts: Create accounts on the Canadian Common CV (CCV) system and ResearchNet.
  4. Prepare Application Materials: Complete the CCV using the Vanier-Banting academic template and gather all required documents, including research proposal, letters of reference, and institutional support documents.
  5. Submit Application: Submit the complete application through ResearchNet by the deadline.
