Description: Since its inception a century and a half ago, the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome (RAER) has been a center of artistic creation and knowledge production. To date, more than a thousand residents have lived in Rome, fostering relationships in a context of constant feedback, which represents one of its hallmarks. For the past ten years, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) has also funded the projects of fellows at the Academy. Thus, the RAER constitutes one of the most important artist residencies in Spain and continues to be an essential instrument of Spanish cultural policy abroad: a platform for the international projection of creativity that promotes cultural ties with Italy and the rest of Europe and Latin America.

The MAEC-AECID scholarships for artistic residencies at the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome Aimed at Spanish, European Union, and Latin American creators and researchers.

Eligibility:

  1. Hold the nationality of one of the following countries:

a.1) Spain.

a.2) European Union (except Spain): Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia, and Sweden.

a.3) Latin America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

  • An artist or creator with a proven track record;
  • Be up-to-date, where applicable, with their Spanish tax and social security obligations.
  • Ibero-American applicants must be in possession of a national passport at the time of joining the Academy.
  • Applicants must be of legal age.
