The interface between fundamental science, philosophy and quantum technology PhD scholarship at University of Queensland, Australia

Scholarship Description: The primary purpose of this position will be to conduct experiments the research goals of the FQXi grant “Information as Fuel for a Quantum Clock”. Using superconducting devices, the project will demonstrate the equivalence of information and fuel for a quantum clock, formulate the thermodynamic constraints on time keeping and demonstrate the limits to the accuracy of such clocks arising from the quantum limits to information extraction. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with a theoretical team led by Prof. Gerard Milburn.

Eligible Nationalities: Domestic students, International students

Scholarship Benefits: $28,092 per annum (2020 rate), indexed annually. Top-up of $7,000.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • have completed an approved university degree
  • have completed some research experience and
  • can meet the English language requirements.
